If the player has committed a crime, (e.g.: such as speeding, running red lights, traffic collision, property damage, etc) the police give chase, ram Tanner and attempt to total his car in order to put him under arrest. While driving, do not let the felony raise high, or more police units will appear on patrol, making completing missions objectives very challenging and dangerous. However, if you already have Felony, the only way to avoid the police is staying out of their white spheres/cones otherwise they will continue the chase. To avoid police chases, always try to drive slower, don't swerve in-and-out of traffic and/or run a red light as often as there are cops near you if your felony meter is at empty. However, this trick will cause framerates to drop on Playstation version. It is also possible to have 6 police cars on your tail only if the player touches every police car on a roadblock, chasing all of them to you. The maximum number of cop cars depends on the version Driver is being played on, which is 4 on PC version and 2 on the PlayStation version. The higher the felony Tanner has, the more police units will be seen patrolling around whichever city he's in. They also appear in the Take a Ride mode as well as Mini games such Survival and Quick Chase. If Tanner causes any traffic violations (such as speeding, running a red light, colliding into vehicles, etc.), they will chase him down and attempt to ram his car. They can also be seen patrolling around each city in the game. In the Undercover mode, police will begin to appear and chase Tanner down just after the bank heist in the first mission of the game.
